What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is a word along with a TLD that uniquely identifies your website. For Example:
It is easy to remember names for computers on the Internet (such as webhostwala.com). Domain name correspond to a series of numbers (called Internet Protocol numbers) that serve as routing addresses on the World Wide Web. Domain names are used generally as a convenient way of locating information and reaching others on the Internet.
What does it mean to register a domain name?
The Internet domain name system (DNS) consists of a directory, organized hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet. When you register a domain name, it will be associated with the computer on the Internet you designate during the period the registration is in effect. To preserve order on the Internet, and to ensure that no two people ever own the same domain name, there is a central registry of all domain names maintained by The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
What's in a good domain name?
A good domain name is short (1 to 3 words), easy to remember, and representative of your business.
How Do I Register a Domain Name?
Registering a domain name is very easy.
First you will have to make sure that the domain you want is available - you can do this by using our Domain Search Tool or by using something called a WHOIS lookup to ensure the domain you want is available for registration. Once you know the domain you want is available you can follow the process to register the wanted domain. Provide all the contact and technical information to complete the registration process.
Is there a refund if I misspell my domain name or simply do not want it anymore?
Service is rendered the moment we register the domain name for you. The domain name registry does not allow for refunds, and therefore we also do not refund. It is imperative that you double check the spelling of the domain name(s) you want and ensure that they are spelled the exact way you want. We cannot correct misspellings. In the event of a spelling error, and you want the domain name spelled correctly (presuming it is available), you will need to register that name as well.
Will my name and contact information be publicly available?
Yes. Information about who is responsible for domain names is publicly available to allow rapid resolution of technical problems and to permit enforcement of consumer protection, trademark, and other laws. The registrar will make this information available to the public on a "Whois" site.
How long does a domain name registration last? Can it be renewed?
WebHost wala provides you with the ability to register and renew domain registrations in one-year increments, with a total registration period limit of ten years.
What is a domain name pointer? Why might I need one?
A domain name pointer is simply a domain name that "points to" another web site. For example, the following domain names: goacyber.com and www.cybergoa.com will take you to the same web site. That is because goacyber.com is a 301 permanent redirect to www.cybergoa.com.
Domain pointers can be handy for several reasons. One popular reason to own a domain pointer is to shorten or improve your
web site address. Also, businesses often find that they profit from owning more than one domain name or domain name pointer. When a searcher can not remember a domain name, they will often type in likely domain names trying to find the site (in above example whether a user types cybergoa.com or goacyber.com he is taken to the same site). Because domain names are
cheap, you can easily buy several domain names similar to your main domain name, all of which refer to your site. Other uses for domain pointers include using them to track marketing campaigns (i.e. putting a specific domain name on a certain advertisement and tracking how many hits are received to that domain name) or to target a specific market segment (i.e. using separate domain names to focus on separate aspects of a business).
What is domain name parking? How much does it cost?
Because domain names are selling at such a rapid rate (over 10,000 per day!) many people choose to buy and save their domain
names even though they have not yet built the web site associated with the name. This is called domain name parking. Once you've bought a domain name, Web Host wala provides free parking if you've bought the name from us. If you buy a domain name
through us, your name will be parked and saved on our servers automatically. You don't have to use it until you want to. If you already own a domain name and are currently paying someone else to park your name, transfer and park your name on our servers for free.
Are domain names really going that quickly?
Just check out the facts:
In 1995, roughly 100,000 domain names were registered. Since then, over 30 million have been registered.
97 percent of the words in Webster's dictionary have been registered. Every single "all a's" domain name from a.com to aaa..aaa.com (63 characters) has been registered.
There are over 50,000 possible one, two and three-letter domain names, all of which have long been bought, even the ones that don't make sense (ie. z, 11, chz, e1q, f-4, etc.) Many of these are owned but not in use (i.e. parked). At auction, these
domains easily fetch between three and four figures. All common English names have been registered. Some people have argued: there are roughly 31,700,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 domain names available, counting the 37 characters in the English alphabet, plus 10 digits and the hyphen.
How do I know if my domain name is taken? How do I go about getting my domain name or names?
To check and see if your domain name is taken, use our free Domain Name Search Tool. You can search as many times as you like. If someone has taken your domain name, you can check for other available name.
If your domain name is available you may follow the instructions and register the name online, or you can call WebHost wala at +91-989-069-9990 or contact us using our Contact Us Form and have us help you with the process.
If you plan to buy one or more domain names, WebHost wala also offers Bulk Domain Registration.
What are the rules for registration of .net and .org names?
They are the same as for .com traditionally, however, names in .net have been used by organizations involved in Internet infrastructure activities and .org is frequently used by not-for-profit organizations.
How much does a domain name cost?
The prices vary depending on the TLD you choose. Click Here to check our pricing.
How long does it take to register or transfer a domain name?
It will take you just a few minutes to register a domain, but it might not be available on the Internet for up to 48 hours. This is due to the fact that Internet DNS databases are updated only once a day, causing the delay.
OK, now that I got my domain name, what's next?
There are several things you can do once you've acquired a domain name. Once you've registered a domain name through Webhost wala, it is already parked free of charge on our servers. You can keep your domain name parked for as long as
you like, as long as you continue to pay the annual registration fee. More commonly, however, you'll want to build a web site or point your new domain name to a web site you already own. For more
information about our web site design services, Click Here. Owning a domain name also gives you a special e-mail address. You can use this address whether or not you actually have a
web site. Once you own a domain name (i.e. yourdomainname.com), you can also own the e-mail address(es) (i.e. yourname@yourdomainname.com or info@yourdomainname.com). Email accounts are available as per our web hosting packages or for a small extra fee after registering your domain name with us.

|
What is Web Hosting?
Hosting provides individuals or organizations with the systems to store information, images, video, or other content accessible to users of the Web. Web hosting supports a wide range of software, applications, languages, and databases.
What is the difference between Linux accounts and Windows accounts?
Linux provides secure and reliable environment perfect for most hosting needs, but sometimes you want to take advantage of a number of Windows applications such as MS Access, or ASP scripting. For that you may want to use NT.
How do I decide on the hosting server?
Depending on which operating system to go with depends on your needs. If you need to support Microsoft products such as ASP, MS Access, or VBScript, then Windows hosting would be better. Furthermore, if you are comfortable with IIS and do not have the time to understand how UNIX works, Windows hosting would again be a better choice. There are some things to remember.
First of all, just because you use Windows at home does not mean you should use Windows hosting. The two are completely different, and having a Windows system at home will not affect your ability to communicate with a Linux server.
Secondly, Linux is much more common with web hosts due to its superior stability. Linux hosting is usually cheaper than Windows. Just because it is cheaper does not mean it's not as good - Linux is an excellent product too. People using Linux server have end user support which is not there for windows.
What exactly is space and bandwidth/data transfer?
Diskspace is the size your website can be. Every single letter on your website has to be stored somewhere on your web host's server. Each letter is one byte, and a megabyte is roughly one million bytes. HTML pages are usually very small, but it is the extra images, scripts, and even databases that can take up large amounts of disk space. Bandwidth/Transfer is the amount of data the server will allow your site to send in a month. Transfer is usually measured in gigabytes - billions of bytes. Once you go over your monthly limit, a host may either shut your site down for the remainder of the month or it can charge you 'overage.'
What happens if I go beyond my data transfer limit?
Any data transfer in excess of the plan threshold will be charged at the end of the billing period.
Can I purchase additional disk space?
Additional disk space can be purchased through WebHost wala.
My host offers unlimited bandwidth/space/transfer
It is not possible for a web host to offer 'unlimited' bandwidth or diskspace. Such hosting plans always come with clauses that restrict how much bandwidth you can transfer at a given moment, how much CPU usage you can use (which is arbitrarily decided), and so forth.
How do I track how many hits my website gets?
There are a few things that need to be cleared in terms of terminology: Hits - this simply refers to the number of 'elements' loaded on your site. If one page has five images in it, viewing that page once adds 6 hits (one page + five images).
Impressions - the number of times all the pages on your site are seen (also simply called pageviews). Impressions are sometimes referred to as 'hits' which can cause confusion
Unique - the number of people that visited your site. So to clarify, if I visit your website, look at two pages, and each page has 5 images on it, then your stats increase by one unique, two page views, and 12 hits. Tracking on your site can be either done server-side or remotely. With server-side statistics, log files are used to generate visitor information. This is usually much more accurate than remotely hosted solutions.
In such cases, you usually have to add some javascript to your site. This javascript is then used to track visitor data. If your host provides it (and many do), server-side statistics are a good solution.
